It takes a lot of effort to keep Ardenwoods’ resident activities and events running smoothly, and that’s exactly what Edna enjoys about her job. Edna Hampton, Ardenwoods Programs Assistant, was born in Brevard, North Carolina, falling in love with WNC at a young age.
Edna has worked at Ardenwoods for over eight years, starting part-time as a receptionist. She excelled at her work, so management asked her to become Programs Assistant, and she jumped at the chance to be even more involved with residents.
In her current role, Edna assists Community Life Services Director Kari Schrader, facilitating resident classes, decorating the Clubhouse and greater community for resident parties, holidays, and more. “Planning special events, such as the Ardenwoods Singers shows, offers Edna the opportunity to excel in her creative talent,” said Kari.
“I love interacting with everyone and learning about them,” said Edna. “Ardenwoods residents have much to offer the local community and are involved in volunteering and donating.” She notes Ardenwoods residents are knowledgeable, culturally diverse, intellectual, talented, inquisitive and adventurous.
One of Edna’s favorite Ardenwoods memories is of a resident fashion show where residents went shopping at the local mall and worked with shopkeepers to choose their outfits and accessorize for the show. “When you pick up a magazine, you don’t often see ads featuring senior adults,” said Edna. “So, it was nice to watch our residents modeling their own individual style.”
Another event that Edna loves to help plan is the Christmas party. This is a special time for residents and employees alike, where everyone can visit and share a potluck-style meal. Residents also express their appreciation for Ardenwoods employees, presenting bonus checks to staff members from an appreciation fund.
In her free time, Edna enjoys spending time with family and friends, hiking, gardening, cooking, and reading. She and her husband have three sons and a daughter-in-law.
Edna ensures Ardenwoods’ residents feel like they are valued and an inspiration in our close-knit community. Thank you, Edna!
