Ardenwoods is known for its commitment to enhancing resident satisfaction through innovative solutions, and our dining room is no exception. Recently, Ardenwoods took a giant leap into the future by introducing two robots that will be used to assist with dinner service. Yes, you read that right — robots — in the dining room. While it may sound like something from a science fiction movie, these robots are transforming the dining experience for residents and staff alike.
Named Nibbles and Bytes by Ardenwoods residents in a recent contest, the robots have seamlessly integrated into the community, primarily focusing on assisting waitstaff. These sleek, autonomous robots are programmed to navigate the dining area independently, delivering meals directly to residents’ tables. This reduces wait times, while allowing the dining staff to devote more time to our residents.
“The introduction of Nibbles and Bytes has been a real help for us,” said Bill McBee, Ardenwoods director of food and beverage. “Our staff can now focus more on ensuring each resident has an enjoyable dining experience while the robots handle the logistics of food delivery with GPS precision.”
Manufactured by Bear Robotics, the robots are specifically designed for food service, but they are not meant as a replacement for people — they are ready to assist dining room employees with their everyday tasks. Equipped with advanced sensors and navigation technology, the robots are programmed to maneuver around obstacles, ensuring smooth and safe operation within the dining room environment.
“Resident response has been very positive,” said McBee. “The robots are programmed to greet residents and can even sing ‘Happy Birthday’ tableside.”
The decision to introduce robotic assistance aligns with Ardenwoods’ commitment to innovation and resident-centered care. By offloading routine tasks such as meal delivery to Nibbles and Bytes, the dining staff can focus on more personalized attention to residents.
“We’re always looking for ways to enhance the quality of life for our residents,” said McBee. “The robots have been well-received not only for their practical benefits but also for the fun they bring to the community.”
Beyond their functional role, Nibbles and Bytes represent Ardenwoods’ forward-thinking approach to senior living. Embracing technology, like service robotics, ensures that our residents are well-cared for — and our employees benefit, too.
Ardenwoods continues to explore opportunities for integrating technology into resident services, with a focus on maintaining balance between high-tech solutions and personalized care. As Nibbles and Bytes roam the dining room, delivering meals and a touch of curiosity, they represent more than just the latest tech — they embody a commitment to embracing the future while enriching the present for everyone at Ardenwoods.
